Radiography laboratory on wheels presented
Iremas team took part in the conference “Engineering and Educational Technologies 2024: Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment for Engineering Professionals”, organised by Kaunas Technical College, during which they presented their radiography laboratory on wheels. According to Tomas Kačinskas, Deputy Technical Director of Iremas, the radiographic method uses X-ray and gamma ray sources to detect various defects.
“Just as we go to the clinic to get an X-ray of our lungs, in industry radiography is used on metals, pipelines, welds – this is how we examine, analyse and find various defects,” explained T. Kačinskas in simple terms.
The radiograph is mobile and can be taken everywhere – up columns, up factory pipes and so on – but you can’t develop the images on the spot. The Iremas team found a solution and set up the laboratory in a van with all the special equipment needed.
The mobile laboratory on wheels provides firstly the technical capability to carry out this work on site, and secondly, a key advantage: speed.
“Because we have a mobile laboratory, everything can be done here and now, immediately and on site. This makes it more convenient for both us and the contractors, as well as quicker to carry out the works,” said T. Kačinskas.
