Company “Transachema” started operating as a private railway carrier

At the time marked with a lot of fours on 04-04-2024 at 04:44 AM the first train of company “Transachema” carrying 42 tanks of liquid nitrogen fertilizers of “Achema” departed from Gaižiūnai railway station towards Klaipėda.

This trip became symbolic and established an important start for the company: “Transachema”, which provides cargo transportation, forwarding, shunting and wagon rental services, also started to operate as a private railway carrier. Until now, the company transported the goods from the territory of company “Achema” to Gaižiūnai railway station.

Jonas Varkulevičius, the general director of the company says that the company has been intensively getting ready for this step for the last few years. During this period, the license of the railway company – the carrier – was renewed, the safety management system was prepared and coordinated, a contract was signed with the railway infrastructure manager AB “LTG Infra”, a locomotive was purchased, as well as personnel prepared for implementation of this activity.

“The need to become a private carrier was dictated by the market itself. During the recent years as the rates of the railway carrying services for the transported production increased significantly, the possibility of transporting goods to Klaipėda on our own has become more relevant than ever. Right now, we are planning to transport the production of “Achema” only, but in the nearest future we hope to start providing this service to external clients as well. We have plans to further increase the fleet of main line locomotives and run more and more trips,” summarised J. Varkulevičius, the head of the company.
