“Achema” takes green steps and invests in renewable energy sources
“Achema” invests into renewable electricity resources and very soon the installation of a solar power plant will commence within the territory of the factory.
In April, the company signed a financing agreement on the use of renewable energy in industrial enterprises participating in the European Union emissions trading system with the Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA). According to this contract, “Achema”, after receiving support from the European Union and investing its own funds, will install 6.5 MW solar power plant occupying an area of 7.9 ha. Power plant construction will start in August already.
“The company consumes more than 350 million kWh of electricity per year, depending on the operating mode of the factory, temperature fluctuations and other technological parameters, currently the company does not have its own sources of renewable electricity. Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions and develop green projects, therefore, investing in the construction of a solar power plant is a purposeful implementation of the strategic plans of the company. The electricity produced in the solar power plant will be transferred to the internal power grid of the company for production units,” explained Technical Director of “Achema” Juozas Tunaitis.
Currently, “Achema” produces most of the electricity in own cogeneration gas power plant and buys the rest from the external network.
