“Achema” and KTU launched a new joint initiative: they opened particleboard research laboratory
“Achema” in cooperation with Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), has taken another important step in strengthening long-term cooperation – the particleboard research laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanics and Design of KTU has been officially opened.
The laboratory opening event, organized by the Innovation Development Department of company “Achema”, was attended by the management of the company and representatives of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU). During the event, the CO₂ reduction capabilities of “Achema” products were presented, the innovation potential of flat resins and further directions of joint research were discussed.
“Achema” provided additional specialized equipment to the laboratory of KTU – a wood chip and resin mixer. Together with the existing laboratory equipment, this will provide more opportunities to study the properties of “Achema” products, not only in the resins, but also in the later stage – panel production. This step will enable us to understand the behaviour of resins under real production conditions better, assess the quality of the final product more accurately, address technological challenges faced by the customers more effectively, and strengthen cooperation with existing and future partners even further.
“Achema” has been producing adhesives for wood-based panels for over 50 years, and this product group is strategically important for the company. We apply the experience we have gained over many years to develop solutions of the highest quality, monitoring market trends and customer needs constantly. I believe that such a research base will provide even more opportunities for close cooperation and assist us in solving complex business challenges together,” elaborated the CEO of “Achema” Audronė Kuskytė.
The Head of Innovation Development of the company Darius Sargautis emphasized that the new laboratory will allow us to significantly expand the range of research: “We want to exploit the potential of “Achema” further. We are a unique company that can control the entire production chain. Up to now, our know-how has been mainly focused on research into manufactured resins. The new laboratory will enable us to understand how our products interact with the wood much better. We are currently focusing on three main areas of research: improving the quality of existing products, developing new formulas and managing formaldehyde emissions.”
