Gaschema Installed a Medical Oxygen Tank at Panevėžys Hospital

A medical oxygen tank was loaded by crane and installed in Panevėžys Republican Hospital at the Infectious Diseases Clinic. This project was completed in less than two weeks. The demand for medical oxygen had increased tenfold necessitating such an unusual solution.

The new 6 cubic metre tank will ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen to patients with severe forms of COVID-19 virus.

According to the head of the company Valdemaras Vareika, projects of this size usually take several months or more to complete. It takes time to sort out the paperwork, to order equipment, to cast foundation, etc. This time, the solution was needed urgently, so it was decided to support the tank on mobile foundation.

“Until now, we have been supplying medical oxygen to the COVID-19 patient ward in bundles of 12 interconnected 50 litre cylinders, but with the pandemic, when the demand is so high, it is no longer efficient to keep replacing them, so this new tank will save hospital both costs and staff time. Most importantly, it will ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen to patients at this difficult time for everyone,” says the General Director of UAB Gaschema.

According to Arvydas Skorupskas, director of the Panevėžys Republican Hospital, the need to build a new medical oxygen tank arose from a dramatic increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

“After assessing the increased demand and in order to ensure the provision of medical services, we decided to install a medical oxygen tank next to the Infectious Diseases Clinic. We are contented that this project was completed in record time. It will allow us to take care of the health of the population of the Northern Lithuania region more efficiently,” A. Skorupskas is convinced.

The mandatory public procurement procedures were carried out to implement this idea. The medical oxygen tank is equipped with telemetry equipment that will allow suppliers to remotely monitor the oxygen balance and replenish it promptly, if necessary.
