Achema Donated Life-Saving Equipment to Jonava and Kaunas Hospitals
Achema donated lung ventilation devices to Jonava Hospital and Kauno Klinikos of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. The OXI4-Plus ventilators have already arrived at Jonava and Kaunas hospitals. The total value of support exceeds 110 thousand euro.
Renaldas Jurkevičius, Director General of Kaunas Clinics, thanked the representatives of the responsible business who take care of the preparation of medical staff in the fight against COVID-19 infection: “Although the situation in Lithuania is gradually improving, we do not yet know whether there will be a second outbreak of the infection and how many patients will need artificial lung ventilation. Kauno Klinikos is responsibly preparing for different scenarios to ensure the health and safety of all patients, but together we feel even stronger”
Assoc. Prof. Paulius Vasilavičius, director of Public Institution Jonava Hospital, emphasises that the equipment will be used after Jovana the COVID-19 outbreak is over –and it will enable the treatment of patients after serious surgeries, trauma, heart and lung diseases, thus significantly improving the quality of infrastructure of Jonava Hospital.
”Jonava Hospital is grateful to Achema and personally Lyda Lubienė and very pleased with the donation of state-of-the-art equipment to the Anaesthesiology Resuscitation Unit for the treatment of the most serious patients. Modern technologies are revolutionising medicine, therefore, the donation will significantly improve the odds of Jonava residents to recover from the most serious conditions and provide doctors with the means to treat patients with the latest methods,” says the head of Jonava Hospital.
The latest OXI4-Plus lung ventilators allow patients to ensure their respiratory function during a viral lung infection, when the condition of the patients becomes critical and deteriorates. The only hope in the treatment of such patients is the restoration of respiratory function using lung ventilation machines. The technology in the state-of-the-art OXI4-Plus devices will allow to adapt to the patient’s breathing, maintaining his own partial respiration, thus combining technology and the ”lung anatomy“– preserving respiratory function – to achieve the pandemic treatment of the leading Western countries.
This is not the first gift from Achema Group and other Group companies to the country’s hospitals. After the very onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Achema donated respirators, disposable suits, goggles, disinfectant, and other protective equipment to Jonava Hospital, which were in short supply throughout Lithuania at that time.
The companies of the concern also donated 20 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen and 5000 litters of medical gaseous oxygen used for the treatment of acute or chronic oxygen deficiency to Jonava and Klaipėda University and Seamen’s Hospitals, and Klaipėda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO), Centrinis Klaipėdos Terminalas (Klaipėda Central Terminal) made a significant contribution to the donation of 5 smart breathing machines to the Klaipėda University Hospital.
