“Achema” has completed a project on enhancing energy efficiency

A manufacturer of nitrogen fertilizers and other chemical products located in Jonava – “Achema” – has completed an important project on enhancing energy efficiency, implemented invoking the means from the Modernization Fund. The project will contribute to reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions significantly, thus promoting the sustainable development of industry in Lithuania.

Three main measures were implemented in the course of the project: modernization of the ammonium nitrate fan, insulation of 16 bar pressure steam pipelines, and modernization of the nitric acid workshop steam system.

The fan modernization works were completed in December 2023 and the modernization of the steam pipelines and nitric acid workshop in September 2025.

After implementing these measures, the company forecasts annual energy consumption savings of at least 11,976,000 kWh and a reduction of 2,942.59 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

The total value of the project is 2.22 million EUR, including 565 thousand EUR which were financed from the Modernization Fund.

“This project is yet another step of our long-term sustainability strategy. We aim to reduce energy costs and carbon footprint across the entire production consistently. The support from the Modernization Fund enables us to implement technologically advanced solutions that ensure not only economic but also environmental benefits more quickly,” explained the CEO of “Achema” Audronė Kuskytė.

Technical Director of the company Egidijus Juzėnas, noted that the implemented measures were focused on long-term impact: “The modernized systems ensure a more stable technological process, more efficient use of steam energy and lower heat losses. This is a significant achievement proving that the modernization of industrial equipment can be both economically and environmentally sustainable.”

The project is part of a national initiative to enhance energy efficiency, the ultimate goal of which is to encourage Lithuanian industrial companies to switch to more advanced, environmentally friendly technologies.
