KLASCO loaded oversized cargo – wind turbine blades – on Smeltė Peninsula

Klaipėda stevedoring company (KLASCO) performed a loading operation of oversized cargo composed of wind turbine blades on Smeltė Peninsula. 45 wind turbine blades for Pagėgiai wind park were successfully transferred from the ship to the quay. The length of one blade is up to 80.5 meters and the weight is 32 tons. These are some of the largest cargoes that KLASCO has handled to date.

“Even though we were theoretically prepared as there was no shortage of plans, calculations, and scenarios, the arrival of the first ship with such an exceptional cargo quickly proved that reality likes to make changes to even the most meticulous plans. We received not simply some cargo, but a delicately packed test of our technical, logistical, and organizational capabilities. Since this is the first project of such kind in our practice, it is obvious that there is still room for growth and process improvement,” summarised Vitalij Muštuk, the Chief Executive Officer of KLASCO.

Up to now, KLASCO has already serviced four ships with equipment for Pagėgiai wind park. Six more ships are planned to be welcomed by the end of the project in June 2025.
