Listener of RADIOCENTRAS live from Paris: the sense of unity and fraternity was everywhere
On Wednesday (the 8th of August) evening the attention of most Lithuanian sports fans was on Paris national stadium “Stade de France”, to be more precise on the Olympic discus throw competition. Two Lithuanians were competing for the medals in this corner: Mykolas Alekna and Andrius Gudžius. Most sports fans supported our sportsmen by watching them compete on television, but there also were quite many Lithuanians with national flags in the stadium. One of those fans was also Danielė – the winner of competition organised by RADIOCENTRAS and LTeam.
Danielė won the prize presented by RADIOCENTRAS and LTeam a little over a month ago and this week she used the prize she won – a trip to Paris to watch Olympic discus throw finals. Fresh impressions of Danielė were broadcast live from the capital of France on Thursday morning during radio show “Geras rytas” with Gabrielė.
“All that remains after yesterday are only the best emotions. Lots of competitions took place yesterday, the stadium was full of people, everyone supported own native country, of course, we supported Lithuania so strongly that I am voiceless today. The sensation is so incredible that I am unable to describe it. We saw many Lithuanians holding flags in different stands. We approached them, talked to them and supported our athletes together. The sense of unity and community was very strong. We are very proud of both Andrius Gudžius and Mykolas Alekna,” the listener of RADIOCENTRAS radio station described the evening full of emotions.
Danielė made time not only for attending the athletics competitions, but also to feel the real vibe of Olympic Paris: “Actually entire Paris was full of Olympic spirit as people were wearing a lot of Olympic attributes, watching various competitions on TV in cafes, discussing the results even with strangers and passers-by, etc. People were watching competition even from Eiffel Tower. The feeling that Olympic Games are taking place in this city is palpable. There are no words to describe it”.
At the discus throw final which took place on Wednesday Mykolas Alekna threw the disc 69.97 meters, thus surpassing the Olympic record set by his father Virgilijus Alekna, nevertheless, he rejoiced at the record for a brief moment and won the silver medal. The gold medal was won by Jamaican athlete Rojé Stona, who threw the disc 70 meters, whereas another Lithuanian athlete who participated at the final Andrius Gudžius threw the disc 66.45 meters and took the seventh place.
