On November 23, Virginijus Šmigelskas, who has previously managed the Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund, the Institute of Regional and Democracy Development, as well as other state and public companies, took up the position of General Manager of “Lietuvos žinios”.
“Virginijus Šmigelskas has an extensive leadership experience that covers management, politics, education, culture and social areas. “Lietuvos žinios” has ambitious plans, therefore, we hope that the manager with a wide range of experience will give a new impetus to the company’s activities, implement new development projects of the daily newspaper and the portal, and help to achieve company’s goals”, said Gintaras Balčiūnas, Chairman of the Board of UAB “Lietuvos Žinios”.
“I thank the Board for entrusted me with the oldest newspaper in the country “Lietuvos žinios” and the company’s wheel. I believe that my experience in management, my knowledge, ideas and management solutions will bring the team together to meet new challenges”, said Virginijus Šmigelskas, General Manager of UAB “Lietuvos žinios”.
Virginijus Šmigelskas, 56, has Master’s Degree in Communication and Law, he has managed the Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund, the Institute of Regional and Democracy Development, was a member of Vilnius City Council, a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania from 1996 to 2000, and has held other responsible positions in business and public organizations.
UAB “Lietuvos žinios” publishes the oldest national daily newspaper “Lietuvos žinios”, regional newspaper of Jonava “Naujienos” and administers Internet portals “Lzinios.lt” and “Jonavosnaujienos.lt”.
